Buonissimo!

The best meal in the last 10 years.

Primo: zuppa toscana con porcini.

Secondo: fried cod with pappa al pomodoro.

Absolutely delicious, absolutely Tuscan, only 20€. The restaurant is called "Le repubbliche marinare" and it's located in Vicolo Ricciardi 8. I had been there many times, and it's generally good. This time is was better than ever.

"Divino!"

In the North of Tuscany...

... one hour from Pisa, mountains are made of marble, people don't speak Tuscan and streets are named after anarchists.

And you can eat the best lardo in Italy.

The most famous lardo is from the Tuscan hamlet of Colonnata, where lardo has been made since Roman times. Colonnata is a frazione of the larger city of Carrara; Colonnata is itself a site where Carrara marble is mined and, traditionally, lardo is cured for months in basins made of this local marble. Lardo di Colonnata is now included in the Ark of Taste catalogue of heritage foods as well as enjoying IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) status. (Wikipedia dixit)

The scent of Pisa

A friend of a friend, Marco Malvaldi, writes detective stories with a special Pisan touch: the university, students, grumpy and wise "nonni" (grandfathers), bikes and sense of humour. As far as I know, only in Italian (Il gioco delle tre carte) or German (Im Schatten der Pineta: Ein Toskana-Krimi).
